It is what it is

Let's be honest. My last post was a downer. But it really encapsulated how I was feeling at the time, which is important I think.

Because you can't appreciate the good days if you never have any bad days.

At any rate, yesterday was a MUCH better day, thanks in large part to an incredible husband who not only let my sob into his chest (and subsequently mar his shirt with errant mascara) but who also ran to the store to buy me magazines and treats. (Namely two peanut butter Twixes and a Pomegranate Blueberry Naked... delish.)

[Author's note: Whatever deficiencies I may have had in the friend department are made right because of him. He is the truest and most loyal friend, and I am honored to be his companion forever.]

To those of you who were brave enough to comment on my last post, know that I love you all. You are all people whom I value and hold close to my heart. And I think the very fact that you commented demonstrates how incredibly kind you all are, and just reminds me how blessed I am to have such amazing people in my life.

I also really like this blogging thing. Though I've had my fair share of nasty comments, it's been really fun to either meet new people or get to know people that I've always kind of known, but who I now realize are kindred spirits of sorts. It's lovely, really.

Yesterday I decided my new motto is, "it is what it is."

I've been saying this phrase a lot lately, as have some of the people I am in contact with from day to day. I think it's simple, straightforward and true. What I like about it is that it can have both a negative and a positive connotation. Situations (and life, really) can be viewed either positively or negatively; oft times we don't have any control over said situations, so it's up to us how we view/handle it. It really is what it is, ya know? And though we may not have control over what trials or hardships we may face, we can look at whatever curve ball we're thrown and see it for what it is, and appreciate what it is trying to teach us. Sure, it's not always as simple as that... well, maybe it is. All I know is that I have decided that I will be more positive.

I will think of things in more simplistic and manageable terms.

Happy Friday, everyone. :)

As I read a specific line in this post, it struck me because I feel like it sums up why I like your blog so much. (Hope you don't mind my taking liberties...) I feel like we've always kind of known each other, but I've loved getting to know you more personally through this medium. And I know I will flatter myself when I say I feel like we're kindred spirits in a lot of respects. In the sense you are the cooler kindred spirit with an infinitely hipper sense of style :).

"It is what it is," has been my motto for years. My kids get sick of me using it, but it really does sum things up really well. Love you, and love your blog.

Lauren, you have always been a good writer and speaker. I remember being little and playing with you & Chels and having to go home and look up in a dictionary the words you sometimes used...but not only are you incredibly smart...you are what Chelsey says, "a loyal and true friend." Beautiful inside and out- and not many can say that. I'm so happy you have a hubby that treats you the way you've always deserved to be treated. I love you! And though I'm not a frequent blogger, I always try to keep up on yours because you write it all so well.
