A confession

My job is one that is constantly barraged by forced interaction with irascible people. I've mentioned before that it astounds me how rude and irritable people can be over the phone (or to my face for that matter, but that's another story for another day). I've gotten yelled at countless times merely because I tell someone the person they wish to speak with is out of the office.

That being said, I have a confession to make. After I hang up with the aforementioned mean people, sometimes I mutter things under my breath that I wish I could have said to them directly, in order to alleviate some angst. Pathetic, I know, but true. When you have a job like mine, one where it's assumed you're intellectually inferior, you have to do something to get all of those feelings off your chest.

I just happen to enjoy indecipherable muttering.

You should have seen me when I was a waitress. :)

I think that perfectly justifiable. I had a most horrible (swearing) problem when I worked in retail, aka general public. Sometimes you just need to let some stress out...

I had just such an incident this morning. I don't know why I am still amazed at how incredibly rude people can be. I may have not-so-softly uttered a few choice words after I hung up.

This is where speaking another language comes in handy. You can say really bad things at them, kind of out of the phone, and then just say, "Sorry, I was talking to someone else. Now where were we?" Have Greg teach you some good Italian phrases. You'll sound really smart.

haha! I can totally relate....working in the hospital is very similar in the fact that not everyone you come in contact with is extremely "cordial".

ahah!
