Seasons.

There are moments when I step outside and breathe in the coolness of the air and feel rejuvenated, invigorated. When the breeze slightly cools the warmth of the sun, promising nights spent curled up by the fireplace. Such moments are fleeting... my subconscious most likely linking this sensation to it similarly feels in early spring.

As a general rule, I don't like the fall. The days get shorter, the weather gets colder and everything begins to wither away. (Though Utah is known for its beautiful fall colors, the last few years have turned too cold too quickly, severely inhibiting the trees from progressing naturally to their winterized stasis.) I long for warmer temperatures and more sunlight. I cling to the excitement of the baseball playoffs and of Halloween, whilst dreading the winter that is to come.

But I guess this time of year, and its subsequent winter, helps me to appreciate the spring and summer. To take the time and marvel at the quiet beauty of a flowering tree, or bask in the exuded warmth of a summer afternoon. Perhaps this is like life in general, where there must be opposition in all things. Where, to know joy, we must know sorrow.

To my friend who is currently experiencing discouragement, confusion and frustration I say, please endure. Your spring morning will come. And it will be beautiful.
