From the work blog...

Bet y'all didn't know I write for two blogs did ya? I am re-posting something from that blog that I wrote during my sabbatical from this blog. It's one of my favorites.

A tepid watermelon and the elusive $100 bill

This past Friday marked the second-annual TSG Amazing Race. (For a bit more info on the concept, please click here, because it got some great news coverage this year.) A committee of my esteemed colleagues planned and schemed for months to ensure that this year's race would be as inimitable, as unpredictable and as fun as possible.

I think it's safe to say they accomplished those goals, save one tiny flaw.

After hours of running and traxing (and yes, that word is my creation and may not be used without my written permission) throughout the Salt Lake Valley in 100 degree weather, whilst toting around 10-15 lb. watermelons, my team came upon the challenge that will now live in infamy... we had to eat the watermelons.

I know, I know. You all are probably sitting there thinking that watermelons are delicious and refreshing and are a great summer snack. My slightly snide retort would be, "not if they've literally been cooking in extreme temps for the better part of three hours." Two of us (out of our team of four) had to crack open the watermelons without any utensils and then consume them to the rind. As I bit into that first chunk, the first word that came to my mind was "tepid." Because that watermelon tasted exactly how you'd think a watermelon sitting out in the sun would taste. AWFUL.

Suffice to say, I won't be eating watermelons for a looooong time. If ever.

[Just to let everybody know, I STILL have not had watermelon.]

I think that the people who created this so called "amazing race" still laugh about it in their meetings! HAHA! Great Times!
