Dumb quote of the day

As fortune would have it, the post office inadvertently delivered a couple of magazines to this lovely office, and I felt it my duty to peruse them before I sent them on their merry way. I came across the following statement that I would like to share with you all:

"I never believed... a woman has to fall in love with a guy just because they're having sex. I don't think sex is a big deal."

Whew. After reading this I realized that my previous life as a prostitute is nothing to be ashamed of. Because sex isn't a big deal. I can't wait until I have a daughter who I can show this article to and say "See honey? You have nothing to worry about. Forget about STD's and everything else because sex isn't a big deal. Just go for it!!!!"

Seriously, Jessica Alba, I've heard some DUMB things out of the mouths of those with whom society pays WAY too much to "entertain," but I think your comment wins for the moment. Sex is a big deal and whether or not you choose to abstain until marriage (which abstinence I wholeheartedly champion), it should be treated as such. I am tired of the trivialization of something so sacrosanct. As my mother would say "it's just a sign of the times." (Pretty LDS of me, but not necessarily a fallacy.)

And I'm also just sick of unintelligent actresses who coast on their looks and act like their opinion actually means something because they don't eat and work out all day.

Phew, so my underground escort service isn't a big deal either. What J. Alba says is celeb doctrine, anyway.

I don't know if you'll remember me; I'm Natalie Brown's (now Barratt) older sister. I stumbled across your blog while bored at work when day when I was randomly clicking on the links on Natalie's blog. Since then, I've checked back from time to time. While I think you're a really talented writer, I really have a difficult time reading your blog most of the time. Many of your posts have a very caustic tone and a real harshness to them. Many of them also convey an air of superiority that gives off the vibe that you think people who don't share your beliefs are somehow less intelligent than you or aren't good people. I'm not sure if that's what you intend, but that's been my sense as I've read your blog posts. This certainly isn't intended to be a criticism of you as I really don't know anything about what you're like in real life. That's just been my expereince in reading your posts. Regards, Danielle

i definitely remember who you are, mainly because i seriously look up to you. you are a very smart woman and from what i hear, quite a talented attorney. and i appreciate your comment because it's always great to hear from people whose opinions differ from my own.

i apologize if i have come across as self-righteous or judgmental; in fact i often try to preface certain posts i think may be offensive to others as merely my opinions and not my damnation of others. i often like to write in a dry and sardonic tone and am not as conservative nor disparaging in real life. i respect those who have a different value system than i do and do not feign to claim that mine is superior, nor would i ever claim to be intellectually superior to anyone; however, i am also known for speaking my mind and feel my blog is an appropriate place to explicate my feelings and opinions.

but again, i really appreciate your comment because it's demonstrative of the fact that i can always be a bit more aware of how i portray my thoughts and feelings and perhaps be more explicit in the instances where i do not wish to be taken literally.

Lauren, I hope you didn't think I was implying you couldn't write whatever you want on your blog; of course you can. It's just that some of what you post seems to have a bitter, almost angry edge. But the blogosphere is obviously a very limited medium so I'm only basing my comment on the very limited slice of your life to which I have access. The people who interact with you daily might read your posts entirely differently. Take care, Danielle

Yes, our society values the opinions of these people way too much. I appreciate your voice because the voice of the celebs (for instance) is too loud for me sometimes.

I think it's so refreshing to read your posts and I love that you speak your mind, even if I don't wholeheartedly agree with you on everything (though I can't think of a time when I haven't...), you write well and I admire that. It's comforting to know there are beautiful people out there with brains to combat those without. :)

Also, thanks for the advice on Cabo! I'm going to have to look that place up...

I agree with you totally! and as I've said before...love your blog..so fun to read. I can hear your sarcastic tone in your writing, mostly as comical and a funny sense of humor! I love it!
