The "Hmm Factor" and random occurances... plus a post script

Insofar as interesting and random occurrences are concerned, (and by interesting, I do not necessarily mean intellectually stimulating... more like "hmm, interesting") I would like to backtrack to last night, around 10:35ish. I was at Greg's indoor soccer game, and his team was down a player. Frustrations were running high, and one of our players got red carded. Now the team found themselves down two men. And then, another player ended up leaving. It was a crazy game, I'll tell you what. Though I may be perceived as a bit biased, I have to say that Greg played the game of his life, and if it weren't for his amazing keeper skills, they would have lost by a whole lot more than three goals. But I digress...

Enter, the "hmm factor."

This came when trash talking ensued between the crowd and the some of the players. I always wonder why guys (sorry to generalize) think that it's really hard core to say the f word every five seconds. Though I've heard under a handful of girls who could cuss the paint off the walls, it is typically the men who are proud about this ability. As a lover of words and of language, I hate to hear it utilized in such a base manner. And if you're going to be that way, fine (I pity you, but fine)... just have a little respect for the ladies in the room, and refrain from cussing in front of them. Honestly. Haven't heard that much swearing since high school. Hmm.

As for the random occurrence of the day: this morning one of my coworkers brought me a phone. A phone he'd found in the parking lot adjacent to our building. So naturally, it became my issue to deal with. Upon finding out that it did not belong to anyone here, we did some investigatory (name the movie) work to track down the owner. Messages were left and not returned, but the guy ended up calling his phone. I had to answer it... I do not like to deal with strangers' germs... but I powered through and sanitized later. And finally he got it back. Very nice man, actually. A random way to start my day... but I prefer it over transients and bottles of liquor.

As a post script to this entry, I highlight an event entirely unrelated to the post above. As all two of you who read this blog know, I was a bit distraught at the ignominious dismissal/resigning of my favorite manager, Joe Torre. The only way, said I, that my sadness would be diminished is if the Yankees hired Joe Girardi to be the new manager. And it has happened!!! I am thrilled. Plus A-rod opted out of his contract. I am even more thrilled. It seems there may be some light at the end of the tunnel after all.

Kenna beat me to it. Damn. I mean dang, sorry. Lauren, you really need to go back and disclaim the words damn and hell because you and I both know that they are often an integral part of any intelligent person's vocabulary. I agree with you though. I don't know why men seem to think that repeating the f word multiple times really fast and angry like makes them seem more masculine. I am no molly mormon clean mouth, but I can think of few things more offensive than tossing that word around ever, really, but especially at a public event.

Lauren, this is Adam Burr. To be honest, I've been picking apart your top five all time musical phenoms for the past week or so. But no comment can adequately disprove your taste. No, I'm wrong. They mostly blow. Yep, that sums it up. But the purpose of this comment is to point out the stark irony that you find the "F" word appalling in person by uneducated or uncouth males, yet it's perfectly fine if the immortalized, angelic, intelligent, semi-god 2pac uses that word profusely. I know you stated that you don't "love" all those "F" words, but I'm left to believe that you find them at least tolerable. And I guess to you and Ashley, the truth is that you don't understand masculinity. Yes! swearing profusely makes you more masculine. It is masculine to be a low-blowing, foul mouthed, awnry, aggressive firecracker. Let me qualify that. It is masculine to do all those things if you are willing to back it up. So yes, 2pac was (or is, I'm not sure he's dead yet. I think he had a top ten last month) was especially masculine because he backed up all those M-f'n-Ns with his hardcore gangsta style. I mean, he got shot because of it. Now there's a real man.

ornery, not awnry. Pardon my masculinity.

When you are first newlywed you think everything your spouse does is adorable, intelligent and absolutely 100% accurate and right. But after a while, you start to feel compelled to apologize for him...I'm almost there after nearly three years of marriage...So I will reiterate what he said: Pardon him.

I guess I just want to say that I love how you write. I think you are hilarious and I miss seeing you. It looks like your halloween party was a blast (sad we couldn't make it).

Anyway...
I came to post a comment on your blog to tell you that YOU HAVE BEEN TAGGED! I know it sounds cheesy but just give it a try. Please visit my blog for instructions. You have 24 hours to respond...or whenever you get around to it.
